The highest-paying area of the United States for medical coders in 2016 was the Pacific region, according to the annual salary survey of the American Academy of Professional Coders, AAPC. This region includes Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California, and reported annual incomes averaging $53,633 per year. The mid-Atlantic and New England regions also reported average incomes in excess of $50,000 annually.
