Finding a work from home job is hard so why not start your own home business? It’s easy when you know how to get started and given the support you need.
So, how do you get started in your own graphic design business? I got my start in the freelancing world on oDesk. com (Read my post: Tips for Working on oDesk Successfully As An Independent Contractor ). There are many other freelancing sites you can look into as well (see my list of recommended resources below). Invest time and effort into making your online work profile shine with your brief work description, your portfolio of 4-6 samples, and any skills testing the work site might have available. I also recommend having your own website set up so that you will have an outside web presence to show your potential clients during the interview stage. By having this simple, well-designed one page (or more) website set up, you will be one step closer to gaining the trust of your potential client and turning them into a long-term business relationship. Once you have your profile and website set up, the next thing to do is to start submitting applications to the job postings that interest you for work directly related to your portfolio samples. Tailor each cover letter you submit to address what you specifically propose to do for the client to meet and exceed their project needs. Then, once the client hires you, follow through with your promises!
Graphic design is a field that is ever growing and there is no cap to how far you can go in your business! If you are interested in becoming a graphic designer, I urge you to take the first step and start exploring your own area of concentrated study. You can even do this while still working your day job by dedicating an hour or two each evening towards your own self-study and building your portfolio.
For me, working from home as a graphic designer is not only exciting, but also so rewarding. I get to do what I love, (create beautiful and effective designs), make a profitable income for my family, help others reach a high level of success in their businesses, and be there for my family all at the same time! I love it because there is just so much flexibility and there is always something new to learn or a new service you can offer. One day your concentration could be designing logos, the next day you could learn how to build a WordPress website and then offer that as an addition to your expanding services.

Gallup surveys workers every year and each year is the same, people hate their job. More than 70% of Americans say they hate their job or are completely disengaged and not even cool perks like ping pong tables can change their mood. Not only do Americans hate their job but it costs the country over $500 billion a year in lost productivity and missed work days.
Life shouldn’t have to be like that!
I worked my butt off in my early 20s, working a full-time and part-time job to make as much money as I could. I skimped and saved every penny to invest. If I couldn’t love my job, I was going to get rich enough that I wouldn’t have to do it anymore.
I burned out every six months or so and ended up blowing a lot of my savings on buying binges. I had some really cool toys but wasn’t getting any closer to early retirement.
After setting more realistic goals I started saving and was getting closer to my retirement goals but had a sudden and horrific realization…what the hell was I going to do in retirement. Say I could meet my goal of retiring by 45, what was I going to do for the next 30 or 40 years?
Was the idea of sitting around in my underwear watching movies for three decades really worth being miserable at a job I hated for 20 years of my life?
It wasn’t early retirement that I wanted, I just didn’t want to hate my daily nine-to-five. If I had to spend a third of my life doing something, I might as well be happy doing it.

I may have sounded harsh towards college in this article haha, but it was only to show you the major flaws with colleges. Colleges I believe can be essential especially for those who are sure or even unsure about what they want to do for a living. It will show those who are sure what that life would be like and those are unsure may come to experience what they want to do. College has been and is still a fun and educational experience for me and I still don't regret applying for it and attending it.
I hope I have shown you how you can improve your college experience as well as your life with the money you can make online. Figuring out how to work from home in a realistic, sustainable and profitable way has been one of my main goals since I was at university.
And it hasn't always been easy.
There's been times when money has been short, stress has been high, and the prospect of going to a real job would keep me up at night.
These days, however, I feel more confident with my setup and have been happily working from home for quite a few years.
And I know a lot of other people want that too.
I've put together this guide on how to work from home to give you all the main tips that I've picked up over the years. It's my hope that something here will help someone out there make a transition from a stressful job to one that they love.

When I started researching this article I quickly learned how much rubbish there is out there on the subject of working from home.
There's even a website built by the Australian Government devoted to helping people figure out whether they're getting into work from home scam!
So I want to make it clear from the start:
This article will focus on general tips that I've learned from building my own sustainable online business. There is absolutely no get-rich-quick element to it. Unless you are willing to work hard in an systematic, legal and ongoing fashion then this post isn't for you.
The thing is, I actually take these types of articles extremely seriously because it's real people who are reading them and possibly making a decision based off of something they heard from me.
With that in mind I have worked hard to make it as useful and comprehensive as possible in order to combat some of the rubbish.
And that leads us nicely into the next section.
If you want to work from home (full time) you'll eventually have to quit your job.
And that is a really big decision.
The decision is even bigger if you have things like a mortgage, a family to support or some other debts that need to be serviced regularly.
As I mentioned in my guide on how to start a blog I spent quite a while working as a cleaner in a gym from 6am to 10am in the morning so I'd have enough money to pay my rent while I built up my blogs in the afternoon.
Here's some things you should know about working from home:
Being your own boss has its advantages (we'll get to that soon) but it also can be stressful. Honestly speaking, a lot of people simply aren't made for that kind of pressure and a regular safe job is a better bet.
Please read this article knowing that it isn't a quick little decision that you should make in a week, month or even year.
That being said, it is one of the most rewarding things I've ever done.
So let's get onto the positive stuff.
When you finally figure out how to make the work from home thing happen for your situation it is one of the most incredible feelings.
All of a sudden you realize that you are working on a brand and business that solely belongs to you. All the hours of creativity, late nights and hard work are going directly into an asset that you yourself own.
And that is pretty cool!

If you are able to set your business up so that you have more time, and especially if you make a decent income, you'll be free to do more things like volunteering, charity donations, etc. This is a huge motivating factor for me.
Everyone will find their own joys and stresses when it comes to working from home.
The important thing is to weigh up the pros and cons and make a decision based on a calculated risk, not a blind risk.
