SMART goals
today topic will be about goals, in this life we have a lot of goals in our mind that we wanna try to achieve but sometimes those goals seems unreachable and really frustrating to us. why is this happening?
a lot of people make mistakes when they make their goals, they think they need to set their goals as high as possible however this method of thinking is far from effective to do.
so how should we set our goals? the most effective way of setting our goals is by doing SMART goals.
what is SMART goals you asked?
hold your horses guys :), i am about to explain this sure method to you shortly
S stand for Specific
M stand for Measurable
A stand for achievable
R stand for realistic
T stand for time frame
each of the letters has their own meaning,
Specific. when we set our goal we have to answer the six W
what, why, who, where and which
try to set your goals as exact details as you can to make clear of our goals.
example1 of not specific goals, i want to lose weight.
example2 of specific goals, i want to lose 3kg in 3weeks by doing exercise at gym for at least 3x a week plus with healthy diet everyday so i can look slimmer in front of my girlfriend.
you can see the difference between example 1 2 right. )
Measurable. means that while you are going toward your goals you can keep track of it, reach our target date and can experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal. ask yourselves questions like, "how much", "how many", "how will i know"
taking the example from above, when we try to lose our weight we know that we still on the track, are we doing any progress? and how can i know when i have reached my goal.
Achievable: when we have identified our goals we start to figure how could we make our goals come true. we develop attitudes, skills, or financial capacity to reach them. by identifying goals that we think achievable, we slowly notice previously overlooked opportunities to bring ourselves closer to our goals.
Realistic. now for me..this part of the SMART goals is really important. like i have mentioned at the beginning of the topic, people tend to set their goal unrealistically that makes it unreachable.
to be realistic means the goals must represent of willingness and capability of ourselves in order to achieve goal. to put it in more simple ways i am going to use the first example for this part
example 1, i want to lose 3kg in 1week without putting much effort in the exercise and still wanna enjoy my lunch in fish chips restaurant near my suburb area :p
obviously this kind of example is not going to work, why? in order to lose weight not only we need to do exercise but we also need to have a healthy diet. ( you get what i am trying to say don't cha. )
Time frame. when we set our goals, we also need to consider how long will it take to reach our goals. if the time frame takes too long we might lose our motivation along the way to accomplish our goals.
my advice is to use "divide and conquer " strategy where we make small, achievable goals toward our main goals.
so now you guys know how to set your goals properly (for those who didn't know about this information :p)
