Your job may not give you a raise when you ask for one at the end of the year, but you can still receive free money if your employer provides a 401(k) matching contribution. Unfortunately, not all jobs provide this as many employers scaled back on this benefit after the economic crisis in 2008. However, some still do, so inquire if your company offers it, and then enroll in the program. Since your employer will match the funds that you contribute to this program, make sure to contribute as much as you are allowed every year. Remember, this money is not static, but will grow every year until your retirement.
