As popular as online data entry jobs are, there aren't as many out there as you might think. In fact, it's rather difficult to find companies that routinely have data entry jobs available. But here are some companies that are known for offering legitimate home-based data entry jobs:
Axion Data
Axion is not always hiring. You can however submit your information as an interested party. If openings become available you might be contacted. Axion provides this disclaimer:
There are currently no openings for data entry operators; however, that can change as we get new clients. Our business is very cyclical, and there is no guarantee you will ever be contacted ; nevertheless, you may choose to register with us for future consideration.
Axion Data is a reputable company. However, they have gone to a system where they ask that you pay an administrative fee in order to register.
What does registering get you?
A spot in their database as an interested party who might be contacted if work should become available. While the fee is small ($5.00 for 60 days, $7.00 for 120 days, $10.00 for one year), I still don't agree with it. I also recommend that you not pay it.
By their own admission, they're rarely hiring and even when they are, you probably won't get any work. So it seems ridiculous to require interested candidates to pay money in order to wait around for a job that will likely never become available.
Axion claims they had to move to this system due to the thousands of applicants who register with them. By charging people, they say, it helps keep that number manageable and ensures only the most qualified applicants register.
My suggestion? Skip it. Save your time and money. The likelihood of you ever getting contacted by Axion is slim, if ever.
SMART Apartment Data
SMART provides apartment data (rent rates, occupancy, and market trends) which is used by real estate agents, apartment complexes, vendors, and analysts.
They do offer work from home data entry opportunities. However, you will be required to attend an in-person interview and one week of onsite training. SMART is located in the Austin, Texas area. So if you're not in and around Austin, Texas, this isn't the job for you. If you are, great! This is a reputable company known for having work available and for paying on time.
Xerox
Xerox has a virtual workforce program that includes a number of different career opportunities, one of which is data entry/verification.
Although not always hiring for data entry positions, they occasionally are. You'll need to get in the habit of checking their career page to see if and when they're hiring. As a bonus, you might find other virtual jobs outside of data entry that appeal to you. Xerox has more than 8,000 home-based employees performing a number of jobs from data entry to sales and customer support.
As an added bonus, the majority of Xerox's virtual positions not freelance or independent contractor status. This means you would be an actual employee entitled to benefits.
Dion Data
Dion Data Solutions has both in-house keyers and home-based agents. You must be able to type at least 60 WPM to qualify. This opportunity is open to United States residents only. Applications are only accepted via email (you can find the application on their career page ).
Virtual Bee The Smart Crowd
Formerly Virtual Bee, The Smart Crowd almost always accepts data entry applicants. I signed up for Virtual Bee before it become The Smart Crowd. The pay rate is pretty low. I felt like I had keyed and keyed and keyed some more but only managed to ever bank $8.72.
Even today when I login, I can still see the $8.72 in my account. I never was paid because I didn't meet the $30.00 threshold to be paid.
When work is available through The Smart Crowd, it may be alphanumeric, numeric, letters only, dollars only, or about 20 other different variations. Each of the variants have specific instructions on how they should be keyed.
You're paid for each accurate keystroke. Their system may take up to 24 hours to verify the accuracy of your work. So you might find that your account balance fluctuates depending on when your work is reviewed.
A lot of the data entry work through The Smart Crowd are called snippets. These are scanned documents containing all sorts of information from signatures, dates, locations, addresses, phone numbers, etc. But since these were snippets, you would only see one small portion of a whole document (for privacy reasons).
Sig Track
At Sig Track, you can get paid to verify and process voter registrations and petition signatures. It's helpful if you have two monitors since it will increase your speed (and pay!) however, some workers are able to successfully key with just the one screen.
Sig Track doesn't always bring on new contractors. But when they are, there's usually plenty of work to go around. You must be a U. S. resident to apply at Sig Track.
