Finding legitimate work at home jobs for moms can be tricky, but there are many available. Here are 4 full-time jobs that you can do to earn money from your home:
Do you have a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Language or Linguistics? You can put your education or experience to use by becoming a freelance translator. As a translator, you're responsible for taking the written word from one source and translating it into another language, complete with the original text's tone and style. The jobs available for translators continue to grow and so does the pay. A full-time independent contractor makes on average more than $60,000 per year, and a part-time independent contractor makes on average $22,000 per year. Many jobs require that you get certified by a translation association and demonstrate experience translating in your native language. You can become a Certified Translator through associations, such as The American Translators Association.
2. Customer Service Representative
You can also work from home performing customer service. Do you like talking on the telephone? You can make money with a job that allows you to take incoming calls and assist customers all day. You would have to get a second phone line and high speed internet access (if you don't already have one). Having prior call center experience is a plus because employers don't want to spend more money or time training you. However, there are some employers that will hire you without that experience. You can check major job sites such as Monster or Career Builder daily for job opportunities.
Unlike a customer service rep job, you get paid for sales leads or appointments as a sales agent. This can be a good opportunity if you already have a background in sales. If you don't have experience selling, you should pursue another job or get trained in sales. Otherwise, you will become very frustrated, and worse, you won't make money. One example of a sales agent job is an appointment setter. An appointment setter makes cold calls to the people on a list provided by the company, trying to get them to set up a phone or in-person appointment. You get paid an hourly rate, plus a bonus for any qualified appointments you make. You should avoid jobs that don't guarantee an hourly rate because you may never see a paycheck.
4. Freelance Writer
One of the more popular work at home jobs for moms is freelance writing. There are opportunities to freelance write for print and Internet publications. There are several websites online that post writing jobs daily, such as Elance, FreelanceWritingGigs and even Craigslist. However, these are highly competitive, and therefore you must apply for many jobs often and quickly if you want a chance to write for pay. It can be hard at first to get your foot in the door, but you can do it if you remain persistent. Once you've landed a job or two, you'll be in a great position to get hired for additional jobs.
There are other work at home jobs for moms if none of these are a great fit for you. The key is to avoid scams and make up your mind not to purchase a business opportunity. Legitimate employers will pay you, not the other way around.
